Derik, Syria ــ As clashes continue between the Kurdish forces of the Popular Protection Units (YPG) –the armed wing of the Democratic Union Party (PYD)–  and the al-Qaeda affiliated group of Jabhat al-Nusra in northern Syria, more than ten Kurdish fighters were reportedly killed in the recent clashes in the countryside of Qamishlo/Qamishli city, while dozens were injured according to activists.

Clashes victims were buried on Tuesday evening, August 6, in the city of Derik/al-Malikiya. A crowd of residents from the city and the families of the victims participated in the funeral that crossed the main streets of the city.

“A wide-spread popular outrage is being witnessed in Derik after the funeral of the Kurdish fighters, and the YPG is preparing itself for an efficient campaign against Islamists who killed their members,” a source in the city told ARA News on Thursday.

The clashes are still continuing between both sides, and the violence has remarkably escalated recently through clashes between the YPG and Islamists of Jabhat al-Nusra (backed by the Islamic State in Iraq and Sham ISIS) where many dead and wounded have fallen on both sides. This is taking place as no solution appears among the dispute sides.
