Sere Kaniye/Ras al-Ain, Syriaــ On Saturday’s early morning, fighters of al-Qaeda affiliated armed group of al-Nusra Front stormed the eastern countryside of Sere Kaniye/Ras al-Ain city, north-eastern Syria.
As clashes continue between the Islamist groups and the Kurdish forces of the Popular Protection Units (YPG) −the armed wing of the Democratic Union Party (PYD), al-Nusra Front reportedly entered the villages of Um Jahfa and Alok (both villages are located between Sere Kaniye and Derbassiyeh city), about 4 km from the city of Sere Kaniye.
Activists from the nearby villages said that al-Nusra Front has completely cut off the road between Sere Kaniye and Derbassiyeh after taking a secondary school −located on the main road− as a stronghold.
In the same context, activists reported that al-Nusra Front bombed al-Naddas village (10 km east of Sere Kaniye/Ras al-Ain) using tanks and armored vehicles, which resulted in the burning of a house in the village.
As fierce clashes broke between al-Nusra and the YPG, two members of the YPG lost were reportedly killed and one civilian was injured. Ridwan Mohammed Amin was shot in his shoulder.
Meanwhile, Aldar, an activist close to the YPG in Sere Kaniye, said that the Kurdish fighters “exploded one tank, five cars of Dushka model, a wagon of BMB and captured twenty-five members from al-Nusra and the Islamic State in Iraq and Sham (ISIS or DAASH)”.
