Aleppo, Syria− A suicide bombing struck headquarters of rebel forces of the Ahrar al-Sham Movement in Hullok neighbourhood in Aleppo city on Monday, killing a number of the Movement’s members including its leader, Abu Khaled al-Souri.

Two suicide bombers blew themselves inside the Ahrar al-Sham’s stronghold in Hullok after breaking into the area on Monday evening, activists reported.

Issam al-Ghajar, an activist based in Aleppo, told ARA News that two suiciders wearing explosive belts broke into headquarters of Ahrar al-Sham Movement (which fights against the Syrian regime under the banner of the Islamic Front) in the neighborhood of Hulk. “At least seven fighters of the Movement were killed including the leader of the Islamic Front Abu Khaled.”

Member of the Political Bureau of the Islamic Front, Hassan Abboud, blamed the al-Qaeda-linked fighters of the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) for Monday’s bombings, saying that ISIL has planned the assassination of leader Abu Khaled al-Souri. However, no party claimed responsibility for the incident.

The ISIL and fighters of the Free Syrian Army (FSA) −supreme umbrella to the Islamic Front and Ahrar al-Sham Movement− are in conflict since months for control over areas north Syria.
