Tel Abyad, Syria− Forces of the Popular Protection Units (YPG) −armed wing of the Democratic Union Party PYD− attacked on Thursday the headquarters of the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) in Birkino village, near Tel Abyad city. The YPG used mortars in its operation, killing at least one member of ISIL and injuring two others.

The Kurdish YPG forces and group of ISIL are in a conflict for control over areas in northern Syria. The ISIL have dominated Tel Abyad city, in Raqqa province, nearly two months ago, and sporadic clashes between ISIL fighters and Syria rebels took place before the al-Qaeda affiliated ISIL impose its fist on the city. Currently, the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant seeks control over the surroundings of Tel Abyad, activists said, resulting in clashes with the YPG-led Kurdish villages in Tel Abyad suburbs.

Recently, the ISIL targeted Kitkaniya village in the western countryside of Tel Abyad city −controlled by YPG fighters− with more than five mortar shells, which resulted in large damage in residential buildings. No casualties were reported.

Shervan Mohammed, local media activist, told ARA News that the YPG fighters clashed with members of ISIL in al-Kitkaniya, Birkino, and al-Saada villages, coincided with three mortar shells by ISIL fired against western areas of Tel Abyad.

In other developments, a member of the Ahrar Suriya rebel brigade told ARA News that the brigade’s fighters launched on Wednesday three attacks against the headquarters of ISIL in Manbij city, northern Aleppo.

“Our forces killed more than ten fighters of ISIL in Manbij battles and destroyed the group’s military vehicles, one of them was loaded with Dushka weaponry,” said the member of Ahrar Suriya, demanding not to disclose him identity.
