Gaziantep, Turkey– In a press statement, the Syrian National Coalition for Revolutionary Forces and the Opposition (SNC) condemned on Wednesday the “crimes and aggressive practices” carried out by the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) against Kurdish civilians in areas near Tel Abyad and Kobane cities.

The SNC’s press statement accused the ISIL of committing “crimes” and terrorizing civilians to serve the regime’s policies of disintegrating Syria’s social fabric.

“The Syrian people together with the Free Syrian Army (FSA) will put an end to the crimes and violations committed by the ISIL in north and northeastern Syria, and the will of the Syrian people will be victorious in overthrowing the regime and in achieving their aspirations for liberty, justice and dignity,” the SNC’s statement said.

Speaking to ARA News, the representative of the Kurdish National Council (KNC) at the political body of the SNC, Salah Darwish, said that the KNC representatives put pressure on the SNC to condemn the ISIL attacks on Syria’s Kurdish areas.”

“The Syrian opposition groups should review their political discourse regarding the conflict in the Kurdish areas. The members of the KNC are ready to discuss with other political forces the sensitive issues in the Kurdish areas, including the ongoing conflict between the Kurdish forces of the Popular Protection Units (YPG) and the Qaeda splinter group of the ISIL,” Darwish said.

Darwish also pointed out to the agreement between the YPG and FSA fighters to fight ISIL members in areas of Tel Abyad, Qare Qozak and al-Shyiokh which came due to the dangers the ISIL impose on northern areas of Syria.

“This agreement could turn into an efficient coordination between the two sides,” Darwish told ARA News. “In order to reach this coordination, the YPG forces should clarify its stance towards the Syrian opposition, as there is a mutual need in fighting the ISIL which is seeking to take control over Kobane city and its countryside.
