Duhok, Iraqi Kurdistan– The General Command of the Kurdish forces of the Popular Protection Units (YPG) issued a statement on Tuesday evening, warning media activists not to publish any news updates about the current military operations carried out by the YPG in northern Syria without a permission by the Media Center of the YPG forces.

The statement warned that the YPG −military arm of the Democratic Union Party (PYD)− would consider the distribution of any YPG-linked news without first referring to its Media Center “an attempt to deliver information to terrorists” (in reference to fighters of ISIL group).

The statement −which was published by the YPG Media Center on the forces’ official website on Tuesday evening− affirmed that the General Command will pursue those “who harm and endanger the lives of YPG fighters”.

The YPG Media Center called on the activists “to be cautious and to respect its regulations”.

According to observers, the YPG forces intend to maintain confidentiality of its “military tactics” in order to guarantee success of the forthcoming operations.

YPG-linked sources emphasized that anyone (basically media activists) who would violate the orders of the YPG General Command “will be punished”.

The statement came amid reports about the movement of YPG forces in Kobane city which has been in a state of alert due to a military escalation by the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) −as ISIL tries to storm city. YPG’s General Command called for a mobilization of the YPG forces in Kobane city “to defend it against possible attacks”.

The YPG is in conflict with Islamists since months for control over areas in northern Syria.
