Aleppo, Syria– Activists reported on Wednesday suffocation cases among civilians in Kaferzeita city in Syria’s central Hama province as a result of dropping explosive barrels by pro-regime air force.
According to local activists in Hama, the barrels which hit Kaferzeita were uploaded with toxic gases and dropped by Syrian air force’s helicopters on the city.
Abdurrahman Mohammed, a local activist based in Hama, told ARA News that the explosive barrels were dropped on agricultural lands in the vicinity of Kaferzeita city.
At least 15 suffocation cases were reported. The wounded were taken to nearby field hospitals, while the seriously injured were taken to Turkish hospitals.
Meanwhile, military forces loyal to President Bashar al-Assad (positioned in nearby checkpoints) targeted the city of Morek in the northern countryside of Hama with heavy artillery. No casualties were reported.
These developments coincided with clashes between opposition fighters of the Free Syrian Army (FSA) and regime forces in the southern part of Morek city. 17 regime soldiers were reported dead and others were injured.
